About Avery's Helpful Hair Kits
Since our founding in 2023, Avery's Helpful Hair Kits has brought to life Avery's vision of providing essential haircare items to foster children with highly-textured hair. Our partnerships and recognitions include: the 2026 NAACP x L'Oreal Inclusive Beauty grant, distribution via GiveNKind, collaborations with local Rotary clubs, Northwestern University and Evanston students, in-kind product donations from Ampro Industries, Softee Products, LushUs Haircare, and CurlyKids haircare; and recipient agencies including Lydia Home Evanston,WINGS, and the National Youth Advocate Program, among others.
Why haircare kits?
It's very important to Avery to have a routine for her hair. Her mom taught her how to wash, deep condition, detangle, brush and braid it, and now Avery sees her hair as a form of self-expression. When Avery was 6, her mom told her about a local foster mom who was looking for help with her foster daughter's very curly hair. They donated some of Avery's newly-purchased products, but the idea stuck with Avery for years to come.
